Learn Chinese with Lan ("the Service", available at learnchinesewithlan.com) is an online Chinese self-study platform operated by Lan, an individual educator based in Mongolia. The Service offers scenario-based lessons, morpheme vocabulary lessons, the Word Tree vocabulary explorer, and related learning tools. By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
The Service is a self-study course, not a live tutoring service and not a certification body. Lessons, exercises, and tools are provided as-is for you to study at your own pace. Content is added and improved over time; the exact set of lessons may change. Completing the course does not grant an official qualification — though it should prepare you well for HSK exams.
Some features require an account identified by your email address. You agree to: provide a real email you control, keep your login method secure, and not share your account so that multiple people use one paid subscription. One account is for one learner. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. I may suspend accounts that violate these terms, with a refund of unused paid time where that's fair.
Paid plans are: monthly ($7), annual ($49; $29 in Mongolia), and lifetime ($129, one-time). Prices are shown at checkout and may change for future purchases — never retroactively for a period you already paid.
Payments are processed by Paddle (paddle.com), acting as merchant of record. This means your purchase is legally made from Paddle, Paddle's name appears on your card statement, and Paddle handles payment security, invoicing, and applicable sales taxes/VAT.
Auto-renewal: monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you subscribed (or a price you were notified of in advance). You can cancel anytime via the link in your Paddle receipt or by emailing contact@learnchinesewithlan.com. Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the paid period. Lifetime is a single payment with no renewal.
Refunds: every plan has a 14-day, no-questions-asked full refund — see the Refund Policy, which is part of these terms.
All course content — lessons, texts, audio, exercises, illustrations, the Word Tree data, and the design of the Service — is the copyrighted work of Lan unless otherwise noted. Your subscription gives you a personal, non-transferable license to access and use the content for your own learning.
You may not: copy, redistribute, or republish course content; sell or share access; use the content to build a competing course or to train machine-learning models; or remove copyright notices. Short quotations for reviews or study notes are fine — that's normal fair use.
Anything you create from what you learn — your own sentences, essays, conversations — is entirely yours, obviously.
Don't attempt to break, overload, or bypass the Service's access controls; don't scrape content in bulk; don't use the Service for anything unlawful. That's the whole list.
The Service is provided "as is". I work hard to keep it accurate, available, and useful, but I'm one person, and I can't promise uninterrupted availability or error-free content. To the maximum extent permitted by law, my total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, or affects mandatory consumer rights in your country — those rights always win over this text.
These terms are governed by the laws of Mongolia. If you are a consumer in another country, you keep any protections that your local law says cannot be taken away from you.
I may update these terms as the Service evolves. The "last updated" date at the top will change, and for significant changes (pricing structure, your rights) I'll notify subscribers by email before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you don't, you can cancel and the refund policy applies as usual.
